My ex lives in AZ but I live in New Zealand. Yes this is an international conflict. My ex has never contributed any child support towards our daughter’s upbringing. My daughter is 10 yrs old. Recently my ex got in touch with us after 2 and half yes gap and is demanding his new wife to be introduced to our daughter. Does his wife have any rights here?
If you and your daughter have lived in New Zealand for the past ten years (or even two years) then it is very likely that your case is governed by the laws of where you live and not Arizona. You may need to transfer jurisdiction. You will need to look into international child custody laws and the Hague Convention. However, if you all lived in Arizona and a parent attempts to re-enter a child’s life they will typically need to start with some reunification type visits and or therapy. These are typically done over a period of time depending upon the circumstances. Introduction of a step-parent is permissible under Arizona law but should be done with caution only after reunification of the parent has been successful.
