On meeting Associate Attorney Ashley Rahaman, people immediately sense her calm, good-natured, confidence. Clients find her easy to talk to about divorce and separation, and about child custody and child support, among other serious matters. They know she gives good advice.
Ashley’s compassion for each client’s legal and emotional challenges is genuine. Nothing is lost on her. But as an experienced litigator, she never lets the emotional aspects of the case overtake her good legal sense and judgment.
Around the office she is always helpful and, well, just plain nice. Ashley glides through each day with grace and a smile. There shall be no drama from Ashley, thank you very much! A little pep talk from her can brighten the most difficult day. One client told her that every time they discuss his case, “he leaves skipping!”
An accomplished attorney who has earned the respect of her peers, Ashley has been practicing family law in Arizona since 2010. She is on the board of directors of the Maricopa County Bar Association (MCBA) Family Law Section. She was chair of the MCBA Family Law Section (2017) and serves as Maricopa County Superior Court judge pro tempore, testament to her legal acumen.
She has recently won the South West 2018 Rising Stars Award for the Family Law section, which can be viewed here! She has also won the Top 10 Family Law Attorneys Under 40 in Arizona Award by the National Academy of Family Law Attorneys, which can be viewed here.
Ashley has what it takes to obtain the best possible outcome for clients – whether it be through judicial resolution, negotiated settlement agreement, or parenting plan agreement (she once drafted a parenting plan dividing the Super Bowl as a ‘holiday’).
While growing up in Kansas City, Missouri, Ashley attended The Barstow School, a unique preparatory school with a mission “to promote sound scholarship and to give symmetrical development to mind, body, and character.” Ashley did well at Barstow. (Especially as captain of the dance team. She still has her moves. Tap anyone?) Today, she exemplifies the work-life balance Barstow teaches its students.
As an undergraduate, Ashley attended Pepperdine University in Malibu, California, earning her bachelor’s degree in English Literature (2004). For her juris doctorate (2008), she returned to Topeka, Kansas, to attend Washburn University School of Law as a Presidential Scholarship recipient. What next? She moved to Phoenix, of course!
What keeps her feet tapping is music by Michael Jackson and anything from the 1990s. Ashley likes to sew (blue is her color), watch football and college basketball, entertain and go all out celebrating birthdays, anniversaries, and holidays.
Ashley’s met a few celebrities, too. When her uncle was a television director, he introduced her to Leeza Gibbons, Magic Johnson, Todd Bridges, and others. Her proud father photographed his baby girl with Muhammad Ali. Local celebrities cruised Pepperdine’s Malibu campus as well. An encounter Ashley remembers very well is when Tia and Tamera Mowry almost hit her with a big black SUV.
When relaxing at home, Ashley enjoys HGTV and Food Network programming (unless she can catch Law and Order or Gilmore Girls). Her favorite movies? Shawshank Redemption and The Sandlot. How’s that for diverse genres! But Ashley’s greatest joy is spending time with her family, especially her husband and two children.
